From her birth in 1951 into Hollywood royalty to father John Huston through her stellar acting career and 17-year relationship with Jack Nicholson, Anjelica Huston has lived life to the fullest.

July 8, 1951
Anjelica Huston is born in Los Angeles to director John Huston and ballerina Ricki Soma. Her brother is Tony Huston and her half-brother is Danny Huston. Her grandfather is actor Walter Huston.

1959
At the age of 8, she attends her first film premiere. The film is The Boy and the Bridge.

1967
She works as a double for Deborah Kerr’s hands in Casino Royale.

1968
Films her first movie, her father’s A Walk with Love and Death. She says: “My father thought the script was beautiful, but I thought it was corny.”

1969
Her mother dies in a car accident at the age of 39. The same year, she begins dating photography Bob Richardson. She was 18 and he was 41.

1973
Meets Jack Nicholson at a birthday party at his house. She says of the meeting: “He had an amazing smile, and we danced all night.” She lives with him off and on until 1990.

1974
She and Nicholson attend the Cannes Film Festival, where Nicholson wins an award for The Last Detail. It is her first time at Cannes. She says later: “It was a French zoo. Masses of beautiful girls were hitting on Jack the whole time, inviting him onto the backs of their motorcycles. I felt very wary.”

1981
Appears in The Postman Always Rings Twice with Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange.

1985
Stars in John Huston’s Prizzi’s Honor with Jack Nicholson.

1986
She wins a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Prizzi’s Honor.

1987
Stars in her father’s last film, The Dead, based on the story by James Joyce. She suffers from mononucleosis during filming.

Aug. 28, 1987
John Huston dies in his sleep in Middletown, Rhode Island from complications of emphysema.

1989
During a rehearsal for The Grifters, she receives a call from Jack Nicholson inviting her to dinner. Over dessert, he tells her: “Someone is gonna have a baby.” That someone was actress Rebecca Broussard, with whom Nicholson had been having a relationship on the side. He tells Huston that he is going to stand by Broussard but that he wants to continue his relationship with Huston as well. Huston responds: “There’s only room for one of us women in this picture, and I am going to retire from it.”

1989
Stars in the television mini-series Lonesome Dove with Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Diane Lane, Rick Schroeder, Danny Glover, and Robert Urich.

1989
Stars in Enemies, a Love Story. She is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role.

1990
Stars in The Grifters with Annette Bening and John Cusack. She is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role.

1991
Stars as Morticia in The Addams Family with Raul Julia. She says: “My model for Morticia was Jerry Hall, who only seems to see the best in everyone.”

May 23, 1992
Marries sculptor Robert Graham at the Bel-Air Hotel. She wears a white Armani suit. She says later, “It seemed a little late in life to sport a veil. The shoes were Manolo Blahniks that were three sizes too small. Agony!”

2001
Stars in Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums with Gwyneth Paltrow, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, and Danny Glover.

2004
Stars in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou alongside Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, and Owen Wilson.

Jan. 16, 2005
She wins the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for a Performance in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film for her role as Carrie Chapman Catt in Iron Jawed Angels.

She is named PETA’s Person of the Year. PETA representative Wendy Wegner tells E!: “She has spoken out for great apes who are violently forced to perform on screen and for animals who are abused in the cruel horse-drawn carriage and fur industries. And this past year, a PETA video that she narrated helped convince all top 10 U.S. ad agencies to ban great apes from their ads.”

Wins a Gracie Award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Drama Series for her role in Smash.
