Candy Land Timeline

Eleanor Abbott invents the game of Candy Land while recovering from polio in San Diego, California. Her goal is to create a game for children with polio. Once she has created it, she submits her game to Milton Bradley. Candy Land is released by the Milton Bradley Company. The first game sells for $1.00. The advertising reads: "the sweet tooth yearning of the younger set without the tummy ache aftereffects." The package reads, "A sweet little game ... for sweet little folks." Hasbro, Inc. acquires the Milton Bradley Company and the rights to Candy Land. Hasbro files suit against the Internet Entertainment Group (IEG) for placing sexually explicit material on the domain name candyland.com. Hasbro releases a direct-to-DVD animated movie called Candy Land: The Great Lollipop Adventure. Spero T. Haritatos, owner of the Candy Land & Nora's Candy Shop in Rome, New York and maker of Turkey Joint candy, files suit against Hasbro, Inc. and Toys "R" Us in order to prevent Hasbro from selling candy under his trademarked named, "Candy Land." In 1996, Haritatos registered the name "Candy Land" for use in the sale of his candy.
