Anderson Cooper born to designer Gloria Vanderbilt and author Wyatt Emory Cooper.
1977
Cooper's father, Wyatt Cooper, dies after suffering several heart attacks.
1988
Cooper's brother, Carter Vanderbilt Cooper, a Princeton graduate, commits suicide at the age of 23 by jumping from the terrace of Gloria Vanderbilt's Manhattan apartment. Gloria believes his suicide was the result of a psychotic episode induced by the allergy drug, Proventil.
1989
Graduates from Yale University with a BA in Political Science
1992
Begins working as a fact checker for Channel One, a news program made to air in classrooms. Moves to Vietnam to study Vietnamese at the University of Hanoi.
1995
At the age of 28, signs with ABC News and becomes their youngest correspondent.
Sept. 1999
Becomes permanent anchor of
World News Now.
2000
Leaves
World News Now to host ABC's reality show,

Begins work as an anchor alongside Paula Zahn on CNN's "American Morning with Paula Zahn".

Cooper's agent, Luke Janklow, announces that Cooper has signed a $1 million book deal with HarperCollins to publish his memoir. Janklow says the book will “deal with the last year of [Cooper’s] life as a journalist and human being in Sri Lanka, Africa, Iraq and Louisiana/Mississippi.”
