May 24, 1943: Gary Burghoff is born in Bristol, Connecticut. He is born with a club foot and two abnormally short fingers on his left hand.
1967: Plays Charlie Brown in the off-Broadway musical, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.
1970: Robert Altman directs the feature film, M*A*S*H, starring Burghoff as Radar O'Reilly as well as Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould, Robert Duvall, Sally Kellerman, Tom Skerritt, Roger Bowen, Bud Cort and Fred Williamson.
1971: Marries Janet Gayle, with whom he has one daughter, Gena.
Sept. 17, 1972: The first episode of the tv series, M*A*S*H, airs on CBS, entitled "M*A*S*H the Pilot". Burghoff plays the role of Corporal Radar O'Reilly, reprising his role from the film version of M*A*S*H.
1977: Wins the Emmy for Outstanding Continuing Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
1979: His marriage to Janet ends in divorce.
1995: Burghoff co-stars with his daughter Gena Burghoff in the film, Behind the Waterfall.
1991: He marries Elisabeth Bostrom, a dental assistant for the developmentally disabled. with whom he has two children.
1992: Burghoff begins painting wildlife and tours in art galleries around the United States.
