Feb. 1, 1924: H. Richard Hornberger is born.
1950s: Hornberger serves as a doctor in the 8055th M*A*S*H (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) during the Korean War.
1968: Hornberger publishes the novel, M*A*S*H: A Novel About Three Army Doctors, under the pseudonym Richard Hooker. The book is based on his own experience as a doctor in a M*A*S*H unit during the Korean War. The character of Hawkeye Pierce is based on himself.
1972: Hornberger publishes a sequel, M*A*S*H Goes to Maine.
1977: Publishes a third M*A*S*H novel, M*A*S*H Mania
1988: Hornberger retires from his longtime surgical practice in Waterville, Maine.
