She’s always been one of America’s sweethearts but she challenged that perception when she was arrested for her drunken rant against a police officer after using the “Don’t you know who I am?” line. However, with both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe already under her belt, there’s no denying she’s got talent.

While in Atlanta filming The Good Lie, she and Toth are pulled over and Toth is found to have a blood alcohol above the legal limit. He is arrested and charged with a DUI. Witherspoon is arrested for disorderly conduct after she gets out of the car against his orders and tells the police officer she “is an American citizen”. She also says “Do you know my name?” and when the officer says he doesn’t need to know it she responds, “You don’t need to know my name?” He says, “Not quite yet” and she says, “Oh, really? You’re about to find out who I am.”

Two days after her arrest, she attends the New York premiere of Mud in which she stars alongside Matthew McConaughey and Sam Shepard.

She issues a statement about her arrest: “Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”

Toth appears in court and pleads guilty. He is ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and one year of probation. Reese is fined $213.
