Apr. 3, 1924: Born as Marlon Brando, Jr. in Omaha, Nebraska to Dorothy Pennebaker and Marlon Brando, Sr.

1935: His parents separate.

1937: His parents mend their differences and the family moves to Libertyville, Illinois.

1940: Sent to Shattuck Military Academy in Fairbult, Minnesota and is kicked out for insubordination.

1943: Moves to New York and enrolls in the Dramatic Workshop of the New School for Social Research.

1944: Makes his stage debut in Gerhart Hauptmann's play Hannele, playing Jesus.

1944: Takes part in the play, I Remember Mama, a Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway production that is such a hit it runs for two years.

Dec. 3, 1947: Plays Stanley in the Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire.

Jan. 1, 1950: Makes his film debut in The Men. To prepare for this role he spent a whole month in bed at a veterans hospital.

Sept. 18, 1951: Plays Stanley in the film version of A Streetcar Named Desire with Vivian Leigh and Kim Hunter.

Jan. 1, 1952: Stars in Viva Zapata!

June 4, 1953: Stars in Julius Caesar.

Jan. 1, 1954: Stars in On the Waterfront.

Mar. 31, 1954: His mother dies.

Jan. 12, 1955: Sends a telegram to Sammy Davis, Jr. that reads: "Never dug you before. Dug you last night. You the man. --- Marlon."

Nov. 3, 1955: Plays Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls.

Dec. 1956: Plays the Japanese interpreter, Sakini, in The Teahouse of the August Moon with Glen Ford.

Oct. 11, 1957: Marries Anna Kashfi from Calcutta. They marry at his aunt's house in Eagle Rock. He later discovers her real name is Joanna O'Callaghan and that she is an ex-waitress from Cardiff.

Dec. 5, 1957: Plays an Air Force Officer in Sayonara.

Apr. 2, 1958: Plays a Nazi officer in Young Lions.

May 11, 1958: His first son, Christian Devi Brando, is born.

Apr. 22, 1959: Divorces Kashfi.

June 5, 1960: Marries Movita Castenada.

Mar. 30, 1961: Stars in One-Eyed Jacks. This is the only movie he will ever direct.

Early 1962: Divorces Movita Castenada.

Later 1962: Marries waitress Tarita Teriipia.

Spring 1965: His father dies.

1966: Gets a lease for the Polynesian atoll of Tetiaroa for 99 years.

1970: Tarita gives birth to his first daughter, Tarita Cheyenne Brando.

Oct. 21, 1970: Stars in Burn!, which he later reveals to be his favorite movie to have been a part of.

1972: Ex-wife Kashfi kidnaps Christian Brando and retreats to Mexico.

Mar. 24, 1972: Plays Don Vito Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather with James Caan and Al Pacino.

Feb. 1, 1973: Last Tango in Paris is released in the USA after causing quite a stir in Italy due to the sodomy scene. The director Bernardo Bertolucci has his Italian civil rights revoked. Marlon receives an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role the following year.

Mar. 27, 1973: He does not show up at the Oscar ceremony, but is represented by Sasheen Littlefeather, who says on his behalf: "To his great regret Marlon Brando feels unable to accept his award. The reasons lie in the treatment of the Indian in TV and the movies in this country, and in the recent events at Wounded Knee."

Dec. 15, 1978: Plays Superman's dad, Jor-El, in Superman with Christopher Reeves.

Jan. 1979: His interview appears in Playboy. In it, he says of actors, "In your heart of hearts, you know perfectly well that movie stars aren't artists ... A prostitute can capture a moment! A prostitute can give you all kinds of wonderful excitement and inspiration and make you think that nirvana has arrived on the two-o'clock plane, and it ain't necessarily so."

Aug. 15, 1979: Plays Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now with Robert Duvall and Martin Sheen.

1984: Gets circumcised.

Feb. 1988: Begins a six year relationship with his maid, Maria Cristina Ruiz, that leads to three kids.

May 16, 1990: His son Christian Brando is arrested for the murder of his sister's boyfriend, Dag Drollet. He says to police: "I shot him, man, but not on purpose. We were both in a fit of rage. The gun went off. Please believe me, man. I wouldn't do it in my father's house ... "I did it because he hurt my sister. He was laying on the couch. He was fighting with my sister. I said, 'You leave my sister alone.' We were both in a rage. The ... gun went off. Man, death is too good for the guy." He pleads guilty and gets a ten year sentence. This crushes Marlon and he never recovers.

1990: At his son's day in court he gives an hour long speech on how he and his ex-wife had failed Christian as parents. He says to the Drollet family, "I'm sorry. If I could trade places with Dag, I would. I'm prepared for the consequences." After the sentencing Dag's dad says that Marlon was just acting and that Christian is getting away with murder.

July 20, 1990: Does a parody of his Godfather bit in The Freshman.

1994: Publishes the autobiography, Songs My Mother Taught Me.

Apr. 7, 1995: Stars in Don Juan DeMarco with Johnny Depp.

Apr. 16, 1995: Marlon's daughter, Tarita Cheyenne Brando, hangs herself on Marlon's leased island which he, it's rumored, never returns to. Tarita is buried next to her slain boyfriend, Dag Drollet.

1995: Kisses Larry King smack on the mouth on Larry King Live.

1996: His son Christian Brando is released from prison.

April 13, 1997: Stars in The Island of Dr. Moreau.

July 13, 2001: Stars in The Score with Robert DeNiro and Edward Norton.

Sept. 2001: At Michael Jackson's 30th Anniversary Celebration in Madison Square Garden, Marlon appears in sunglasses in a leather recliner on-stage and says: "In any event while you're wondering who that old fat fart is sitting there ... I wanted you to realize that in that minute there were hundreds if not thousands of children hacked to death with a machete, beaten to death by their parents, got typhus and died of a disease." Brando studies his watch. "Hundreds of children have been hacked to death in the minute I've looked at my watch. Hundreds more were beaten. Don't chat! Think about what I'm saying. It could be you." Most people boo him, but in playful manner.

Aug. 2003: Linda Carroll, Courtney Love's mother, denies that Marlon is Courtney's grandfather.

July 1, 2004: Marlon dies of lung failure at the UCLA Medical Center. Some of his ashes are spread over Death Valley.

Mar. 2005: Marlon's ex-wife Tarita Terpia publishes Marlon, My Love and My Torment, in which she says that Marlon's daughter, Cheyenne, wrote in her diary that her dad used to massage her "as if he wanted me to pretend we were making love".

April 2005: Jo An Corrales, former business manager, is suing the Brando estate for £260,000 for wrongful dismissal and sexual harassment.
